Finally had chance to walk around Shamian island this am, and see the luxurious White Swan hotel, and take pics of AG in her chinese silk outfit with squeaky shoes (shoes have squeaker in them) on red couch, that adoptive families have taken pics on for many years. Had fund walking in park, many sculptures of people--AG wanted pic taken at each one--so cute! Chinese man offered to take her and my and my mom's pic--had good English. Ended up talking, they are a chinese adoptive family, originally from Shanghai, now in US, with 1 child, who were adopting a 5 yo girl, who was adapting beautifully. She had been raised in a chinese foster family. Found out they were Christians, and so beautiful to share our faith journeys on our road to adoption. Have met or noticed other families who seem a lot more stressed in adjustment. If child is from orphanage, I believe the adjustment can be a lot harder. We still are amazed and thankful at how wonderfully well prepared AG was at her Christian foster group home.
This afternoon, about 50 adoptive families descended on the US consulate, for the visa swearing in ceremony. Cameras were not allowed, but it was delightful to view all the new families--those adopting babies, those with older kids--some 13, right before being aged out ---China won't allow after kids turn 14.
Wanted to write a post just about AG--observations about her--but having been staying up late every night on computer, and late again tonight, so have to close. Hope to soon.
