some may look at us and think we are great people for adopting a child from China. For us, it was a matter of obedience--doing what God called us to do. In this journey, much of it online, I've met many people doing far harder things than we've done--adopting 13 yr. olds--before they age out and never have a chance to adopt, adopting kids with more severe special needs that require a lot of treatment, adopting many times, surprise adoptions. 2 stories I'd like to share--one fam. we met in China--just adopted 7th child, 13 yo, 2nd adoption, they were supposed to adopt 2, but 2nd girl had just run away, while adopting their new daughter--13, who looked very happy, they met her best friend. They were approved for 2, why not adopt this 2nd 13 yo girl instead. China said yes, their agency said yes, but US govt said no--that even though they met this girl, that was not enough time to decide--it is much more time than some families have to decide with matching program--often only 2 days! US govt screwed up with this decision! This fam. is a Christian fam--and don't understand why doors were closed twice--they know this side of heaven, they may never know, but they trust that God knows what is best--hopefully they will be able to make a 2nd trip and adopt this other 13 yo before she ages out.
Another fam I've met online also has 7 or 8 children--she went alone last year to adopt an older girl and was handed a police report--it said she had 2 biological brothers at same orphanage--they had not been referred together, and this was the first they had heard of this--she called her husband and he said that i guess they need to do whatever they can to keep the 3 siblings together. They , after many months of paperwork and petitioning--one brother is older than 14, I think, so this is special exception, they will be traveling in about 1 week to get 2 brothers. I am going to post a quote from her blog, because it is so amazingly wonderful, and really shows her faith, and the faith that I think God asks of all of us. Not all of us are called to adopt--some are, and we may choose to ignore his voice and choose the easier path. But God has called us all to do Hard things--we just need to realized when we step out in faith and do those hard things, He has promised in advance HE will provide us what we need WHEN we need it--in this family's case--finances for 2 unexpected adoptions---through grants and gifts of others, so here is her post, hope it inspires you to follow God's will for YOUR life, and do the hard things He is asking YOU to do, and trust HIm : ( I will try to post her quote as 2nd post--I'm having trouble posting. )
